Rheumatoid Arthritis
When Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) takes place there is a trigger, the trigger is caused by free radicals! What happens in our body when something is getting attacked or damaged? An immune response. This can happen anywhere in our body but when it happens in a joint it can cause our immune system to attack the sensitive tissue leading to arthritis. In Rheumatoid arthritis these free radicals trigger excessive growth of the joint tissue. The immune system reacts with white blood cells. These white blood cells continuously signal for inflammation while simultaneously attacking the growth. Over time the majority of joint tissue is destroyed and bone damage occurs. This is where osteoclasts come into play. As stated above they reform and heal bone damage, unfortunately when this happens in RA, the bones are fused together in the void of joint tissue.
